What happens during the DOT SAP process
Understanding how the return-to-duty process works — clear initial guidance, individualized education or treatment recommendations, and step-by-step support.
1. Request Your Consultation & Initial Assessment
Request your free consultation online or call/text us at (916) 282-0866. We schedule initial evaluations within 1–2 days, with same-day, evening, or weekend options available.
2. Designation & Evaluation
For commercial drivers (FMCSA), request Graham Sargent in the FMCSA Clearinghouse. Your SAP conducts a thorough evaluation and outlines your individualized recommendations.
3. Complete SAP Recommendations & Follow-Up
Complete your required education or treatment program. Upon successful compliance at follow-up, your SAP determines return-to-duty testing eligibility.
Multilingual Translators Available
We provide culturally sensitive support in Spanish, Punjabi/Hindi, Russian/Uzbek, and Turkish.
Every situation is unique. Process timelines depend on individualized SAP recommendations, education or treatment requirements, and successful compliance. Completing SAP recommendations, achieving successful compliance at the follow-up evaluation, taking a qualifying return-to-duty drug/alcohol test, and receiving final employer authorization are distinct, separate DOT requirements. American River Wellness cannot guarantee a specific return-to-duty date, removal from prohibited status, or job reinstatement.
